In order to strengthen regional geological surveys, mineral exploration and comprehensive studies of data, it is necessary to unify schemes of classification and principles of nomenclature. At present there are a number of classification schemes of pyroclastic rocks that have been used in different frameworks in China. These schemes of pyroclastic rocks that have been used in different frameworks in China. These schemes have points in common or are close to each other in some basic aspects though there are some differences in concrete classification. Therefore it is not only necessary but also possible to unify the major boundaries for classification and nomenclature gradually in practice in the spirit of seeking common grounds on major issues while reserving differences on minor ones.
