Tentative Application of the CLSM Technique to the Study of Fossil Diatom Microstructure
|
Abstract:
The Confocal Laser Scanning Microsystem (CLSM) was first tentatively used to study the fossil diatom microstructure. The samples were scanned with the transmitted light in different foci and, as a result, a series of images were obtained. Then they were recombined into three-dimensional views. The authors studied different types of diatoms in different ages from Ali area and Shannan area in Tibet as well as their microstructures and characteristics of paleoenvironment reflection. Some new knowledge on CLSM was also obtained during this study.
