This paper introduces briefly the recent development of international global change research proj-ects and the over all objectives of research and then followed up by an analysis on major scientific issuesin relation to the mechanism of maintenance operation and variation of the earth system and the impact of human activities on the global environment. Finally the key approaches to support the global changeresearch are proposed.
