Two-Dimensional Atmospheric CO_2 - Atlantic Carbon Cycle Model
|
Abstract:
A two-dimensional Atlantic carbon cycle model including the marine biological and chemical processes is described, which simulates the exchange of CO2 between the atmosphere and ocean as well as the carbon transportation in the ocean. The model is constructed on the basis of a two-dimensional advective cuirent field which is produced fi-om a 12bayer general dynamic circulation model of world ocean. Tile Atlantic is divided into 397 boxes, in which the quantities of several kinds of carbon, total alkalinity, dissolved inorganic nutrient, dissolved oxygen are calculated, respectively. The calculation in a steady state is carried out by solving a set of sparse simultaneous linear equations. Compared with the Geochendcal Ocean Section Study (GEOSECS) data, the modelled results indicate that the model satisfactorily reproduces the distribution of several chemical quantities in the real Atlantic.
