A Numerical model of Storm Surges and Its Open Boundary Problems
|
Abstract:
On the basis of Reference 1], a numerical computational model is designed by using the grid-telescoping method for numerical simulation of storm surges . The open boundary problem being of universal significance in computations of coastal ocean dynamics is emphatically discussed, The difference scheme used in this model preserves the properties of mass and energy variation of original off-shore flow problems including open sea boundary and irregular coastal boundary, therefore the model has high computational stability and accuracy.Numerical experiments are performed with this model to simulate the surges generated by typhoons No. 7203 and No. 8509 which affected the Bohai Sea coast. Comparisons between observed and computed surges show that the simulated results reproduce the main features of the two typhoon surge histories. The computed stream fields under typhoon in Bohai Sea are also very clear.
