Abstract:

The seismic activity in Rongchang area of Chongqing in 2006 was remarkable and nine felt earthquakes occurred.The investigation on earthquake sites discovered that the condition of the waste water pours had changed.The relation of poured water with the seismic activity is analyzed,and the possible focal development pattern of the Rongchang earthquake is discussed from the tectonic background,the focal machanism solution and so on.It is considered that the seismogenic model of Rongchang destructive earthquake(about Ms5.0) is controled by the local stress field in Sichuan basin.The poured water causes frequent small earthquakes and changes the partial infiltration and the pore pressure,finally causes the crack to expand and the rupture to occur.
