OUTLINE OF THE 18TH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON HIGH SPEED PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTONICS

Abstract:
The International Congress on High Speed photography and photonics is an international series congress held every two years. The 18th congress was held on August 20th to September second, 1988 in the Hall of Science and Technology of Shaaxi Province, Xian, China. It was sponsored by Chinese Optical Society and by Xian Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Academia Sinica.Yan Jici, honorary chairman of China Science and Technology Association, one of the oldest scientists on optics in our country, acted as the honorary chairman of the congress. Wang Daheng, famous optics expert in our country, director of Chinese Optical Society, held the post of the general chairman. Two hundred seven ty-nine delegates who respectively came from twenty-two countries and districts took part in the congress.One hundred eighty-five of them was Chinese and ninety-four was foreigners. National delegates attending the congress amounted to eighteen. The national delegate of our country is Professor wang Daheng.One hundred ninety-seven papers were presented to the congress. In the midst of them, one hundred thirteen by Chinese and eighty-four by foreigners. One hundred fourty was reading paper in which sixty-five and seventy-five were read by Chinese and foreigners respectively. There were sixteen invited papers.The proceedings of the congress will be edited and printed by the American Society of photo-Optical Instrum entation Engineers. There will be one hundred ninety-seven papers in it Among them one hundred thirteen Chinese papers and eighty-four foreign papers were included in it.The greek scientist G. D. Tsakiris thirty four years old got the Schardin medal of the congress. Dr. M. Ya. Schelev in the General Physical Research Institute of USSR won the Photo-Sonics prize.National delegates have determined the date and place for the coming congress. That is, the 19th congress will be held on September 16th to 20th, 1990, in Cambridge, Britain; and they preliminarily decided the 20th congress will be held in Canada in 1992, and the 21st in USSR in 1994.
