CHARACTERIZATION OF ALUMINIDE COATING ON PURE COPPER PREPARED BY COMBINED ARC-APRAY AND POST HEAT TREATMENT
|
Abstract:
A method for fabricating aluminized layer on copper by utilizing arc-spray and post heat treatment was studied. A diffusion zone was formed on copper after that an aluminum layer was arc-sprayed and then post heat treatment was performed. It was found that the thickness of as-sprayed aluminum coating, apart from heating temperatures and time, could greatly affect the thickness of the diffusion layers. The thicker the arc-sprayed aluminum coating, the deeper the diffusion layers. It was observed that there are two layers in the diffusion zone. The outer layer which originally was an as-sprayed aluminum coating, with some pores and oxides in it, is formed through outwards diffusion of copper atoms into the coating. However, the inner layer resulted from the inwards diffusion of aluminum atoms into copper substrate. The results of X-ray diffraction and EDS analyses revealed that both layers consisted of Cu9AI4 and or-copper solid solution.
