In this paper,the effective index-finite element method(EI-FEM)is extended to analyze the mode propagation characteristics of diclecttric waveguides with different strtictures and index distnbutions,he accuracy of the new method is discussed. It is shoxvn that the EI-FEM provides a simple,fast,applicable,systematic and more accu-rate approximate technique for various designs of integrated optic devises.
