ELECTROMAGNETIC SHAPING AND SOLIDIFICATION OF METAL MELT
|
Abstract:
The electromagnetic processing of materials is now considered as one of the important fields of the materials processing technology. In this paper, the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), which is the theoretical base of the electromagnetic processing technology, is firstly described and analyzed. Then, the basic rules and the main applications of different kinds of electromagnetic functions are given. The application of the electromagnetic force and the Joule heat on the metal melt electromagnetic shaping and solidification processing is especially revealed from the view point of the MHD theory. Finally, the rapid directional solidification excited from the supercooled melt, the electromagnetic confined induction melting of solar grade silicon, and the directional solidification with electromagnetic confinement & shaping is described. Research results up to date are given.
