HIGHER-ORDER PMD EFFECTS ON HIGH BIT-RATE TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS
|
Abstract:
Polarization mode dispersion(PMD) has been the dominant source of system penalty in high bit rate transmission systems.Especially when the first order PMD can be totally compensated, the higher order PMD will become the final obstacle. The exact PMD time impulse response is given.Based on the Jones matrix, accounting for all order frequency variation of the differential group delay(DGD) and of the principle states of polarization (PSP),the pulse distortion due to PMD is analyzed. The simulation results demonstrate the validity of the theoretic analysis. In addition,an anticipated penalty of 40Gb/s optical transmission system due to second order PMD is presented as the simulation results.
