THE EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL ATMOSPHERES ON THE SURFACE STATE OF THE AMORPHOUS Fe_(90)Zr_(10) ALLOY RIBBON
|
Abstract:
Amorphous Fe90Zr10 alloy ribbons were made in air and Ar atmosphere respectively. The effect of the atmospheres on the surface state of both the free and dull side of the amorphous alloy ribbon was studied by means of AES and XPS combined with in situ Ar ion bombardment etching. When the ribbon was formed in air, a notable difFerence of the depth profiIe of compositions and the thickness of oxide films between free and dull sides was found. The surface segregation of Zr was observed in the free side, while the dull side sudece was mainly composed of Fe oxides. When the ribbon was formed in the protective Ar atmosphere, there were similar depth profiles of the compositions and thickness of oxide films in free and dull side, and two sides were all covered with a thin layer of Fe oxides.
