STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND PROCESSING FOR SELF-REINFORCED POLYMERS2.Dependence of Tensile Modulus on the Processing and the Primary Structure of Polymers
|
Abstract:
In this paper a new approach to characterize the tensile modulus of highly ori-ented polymers(ultra high molecular weight polyethylene UHMWPE)was proposed.A newcorrelation between the tensile modulus with the processing condition and the primary structureof polymers was derived from the theory of stress induced crystallization for entangled polymernetworks. When the drawing with constant rate and the primary molecular weight distibutionwith Schultz-Flory distribution function were introduced into the above correlation. The de-pendences of super-drawn ratios and the primary molecular weight of polymers on the tensilemodulus were obtained.A large number of experimental data for UHMWPE and thermotropicliquid crystalline polymers are used to verify the relation of tensile modulus to the super-drawnratios and the aspected ratio of fibers. An expected lines is obtained. An expected limitingmodulus is achived from the relation by extropolating the super-drawn ratios to infinity.
