EFFECT OF CURE ACCELERATOR ON PHASE MORPHOLOGY IN EPOXY/POLYSULFONE BLENDS
|
Abstract:
Effect of boron trifluoride-ethylamine complex (BTF-EA) as an accelerator on the speed of cure reaction and phase separation morphology of epoxy(E51) / polysulfone(PSF) / diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) blend was studied. FTIR analysis showed that BTF-EA was very effective to accelerate the reaction of epoxy resin with DDS. The more accelerator, the faster the speed of cure reaction. SEM results revealed that the rise in cure reaction speed resulted in phase structure with smaller domain size. This could be explained by quick formation of crosslinking network that locked in the phase separation at the early stage in the blend system. The influence of enhancing cure reaction speed with accelerator on phase morphology was correspondent to slowing down the speed of phase separation by depressing the reaction temperature.
