EFFECT OF TiO_2 AND ZrO_2 ON THE CRYSTALLIZATION OF B_2O_3-MgO-SiO_2 SLAG

Abstract:
The crystallization behaviors of the boron component bearing B2O3-MgO-SiO2 slag with TiO2 and ZrO2 as nucleation agents ulere investigated by Xray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared ray(IR) spectrum. The results showed that TiO2 and ZrO2 decreased the activation energy of crystallization and improved the phase separation, thus make the crystalline phase 2MgO.B2O3 and 3MgO.B2O3 precipitate easily.Meanwhile, the Structure of slag was modified by addition of TiO2 and a lot of B2O5] and BO3] which were favorable to make the crystals of 2MgO.B2O3 and 3MgO.B2O3 precipitate were produced.
