MICROWAVE CURING OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS
|
Abstract:
The microwave curing of a unidirectional E-glass fiber/epoxy composite was carried out under the curing condition as follows:1kW for 3 minutes without application of pression. The such cured composite has a fiber volume fraction of 56%. It was found that there exists the matrix bands in composites. There is almost no void. By using ultrasound technique, no difference of elastic moduli was found between two extremes of composite plates and between bright and dark area observed on the surface.Three point bending tests gave Young's modulus and bending strength in the fiber direction. Microscopic observation showed different failure mechanisms on the rupture surface, depending on the local stress states.
