Abstract:

The effect of various content(0.1 and 0.5 wt-%)of rare earth element Y on ten-sile properties and fracture behavior of 8090 Al-Li alloy has been studied.The results show thathigher ductility can be obtainted by 0.1% Y addition and the strength does not reduce;higherstrength can be obtained by 0.5% Y addition and the ductility does not reduce.In peak agedcondition,the alloy with Y-free or 0.1% Y shows mixture fracture mode of ductileintergranular and transgranular with dimples.When 0.5% Y is added,the fracture of alloymakes a feature of shear-type transgranular.The relation between grain structure and fracturebehavior has also been discussed in this paper.
