RESPONSE OF THE INTERLAMELLAR SPACING OF Al-SiEUTECTIC TO THE ABRUPT CHANGE OF GROWTH RATE
|
Abstract:
Response of the interlamellar of Al-Si eutectic growing under constrained condi-tions to the abrupt change of growth rate has been studied both experimentally andtheoretically. The experiments show that the response is retarded and continuous.Mechanismsof the response are the so-called"cluster-branching"and extension-termination of the clustersof eutectic Si flakes. It is sugggested that the response depends on mass diffusion in liquid andcrystallography anisotropic effect of the solid phases.Uniqueness of steady-state selection ofthe spacing is verified experimentally.A parameter is introduced to characterize the anisotropiceffect. The theoretical analysis is supported from the measured results.
