RHEOLOGIC STUDIES OF THERMOTROPIC LIQUID CRYSTALLINE POLYMERS AND THEIR BLENDS
|
Abstract:
Rheologic studies of thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers(TLCP)KU9221/polycarbonate(PC)and KU 9231/polyether sulfone(PES)blends were carried out byusing an Instron capillary rheometer. The flow curves show that the viscosity of the TLCP ishigher than those of both PC,PES and their blends with TLCP at low shear rate.At high shearrate, such as normal injection rate, however, the viscosity of the blends is significantly reduced. The TLCP phases are dispersed in greater size and in smaller aspect ratio when extruded at lowshear rate. The dispersion is finer and the aspect ratio increases at high shear rate.
