A PERIMETER-MAXIMUM DIAMETER METHOD TO MEASURE FRACTAL DIMENSION OF FRACTURED SURFACE
|
Abstract:
A new perimeter-maximum diameter method is advanced to measure the fractaldimension of the fractured surface. The measured value of the fractal dimension by this methodis independent of the length of measuring yardstick. The fractal dimension D_m determined bythe perimeter-area relation of slit island method(SIM)is not the intrinsic fractal dimension Dof a fractured metal surface. The measured value of D_m depends on the yardstick length used tomeasure the perimeter and area. When the length of measuring yardstick is small enough, thefractal dimensions measured by both methods are close to the same value. But the measuredvalue by the perimeter-area relation decreases with an increase of length of measuring yardstick.
