ON THE DYNAMICAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ROUGHNESS IN THE TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER

Abstract:
Mathematical analysis and numerical simulation is performed for the flow field near a rough wall based on an improved theoretical model proposed for the problem. It is found that the roughness decreases nonlinearly as the wind velocity above the boundary layer increases, which satisfactorily explains the current experimental results. Therefore, contrary to the traditional opinion that the roughness is just a geometrical parameter depending only on the shape of the rough wall, it is a dynamical parameter relevant to the flow field near the wall besides the geometrical shape of the wall.
