LARGE EDDY SIMULATION ON TURBULENT FLOW IN A PIPE ROTATING ABOUT ITS AXIS
|
Abstract:
Turbulent flow in a circular pipe rotating around its axis is numerically investigated by using large eddy simulation (LES) approach coupled with a dynamic subgrid-scale (SGS) model. To validate the present calculation and verify the performance of dynamic SGS model in the LES of rotating turbulence, the present LES results are compared with some available direct numerical simulation (DNS) data, which proves to agree well with each other. Then turbulent rotating pipe flow behaviors are investigated. The tendency of re-laminarization is detected at higher rotation angular speed. The reduction of turbulence production with increasing rotation speeds is examined based on the budgets of the turbulent energy.
