EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON DYNAMIC STIFFENING PHENOMENON
|
Abstract:
The study on "dynamic stiffening" is currently a focus in the field of flexible multibody system dynamics. A lot of valuable researches have been done to account for "dynamic stiffening" via mathematical model and numerical simulation. However, to one's surprise, never had experimental investigations on this problem been reported. This paper presents experimental investigation on "dynamic stiffening" phenomenon. The experiment is based on the prototype of a rotating cantilever beam that is often used to discuss the effects of "dynamic stiffening". The experimental investigation is conducted on a single-axis air-bearing testbed. A theory model incorporating the effects of both viscous damping and air drag force is also developed for the purpose of comparison with experimental results. The phenomenon of "dynamic stiffening" is verified by the results of experiment. The validation of the proposed model is confirmed by the experiment, too.
