Abstract:

Based on the analysis of the characteristics of fluctuating pressure field and fluctuating velocity field in compressible turbulence, a corn pressibility-effect-correcting model for the pressure- strain correlation in compressible turbulent homogeneous shear flow is proposed in this paper. Using this model togather with the models for the dilatational terms proposed by Sarkar et al., the time evolution of compressible homogeneous turbulent shear flow is predicted and compared with the DNS data. The predictions of the equilibrium values of Reynolds-stress anisotropies are in exact agreement with the corresponding DNS data presented by Blaisdell et al. Thus, the model accuratly reproduces the dramatic increase in the magnitude of streamwise normal Reynolds-stress component and the decrease in the magnitude of Reynolds shear stress caused by the compressibility effect, and reasonablely represents the physical mechanism of the compressibility effect in depressing the growth rate of turbulence kinetic energy in turbulent shear flows.
