Experimental studies on external explosions during venting explosions

Abstract:
Experimental studies were preformed to investigate the combustion and venting process of the methane/air mixture inside a cylinder by the pressure transducers and the YA-16 high-speed shadowgraph systems controlled by a synchronization unit. The pressure-time histories and the sequences of high-speed shadowgraphs were obtained for the external flow field, which can follow the development of the external explosions (the secondary explosions) in explosion venting. The experimental results show the typical characteristics of the external explosions.The second pressure peak followed the first pressure peak formed by the rupture shock wave. The shadowgraphs of the external flow field also show the secondary explosion.
