WATER SHARING IN THE ROOTS OF FOUR SHRUBS OF THE MU US SANDY DESERT
|
Abstract:
Water sharing by roots of four shrubs of the Mu Us sandy desert was studied in field experiments using a tracer, acid fashcin (AF). A potential for water sharing was determined in the roots of Sabina vulgaris and Artemisia ordosica but not in Salix psammophila or Hedysarum mongolicum. Based on the AF regime in the fine roots of these sandy shrubs and neutralisation between AF and sand surrounding the fine roots, we deduced that a potential for hydraulic lift may appear in the roots of both S. vulgaris and A. ordosica. exists
