A PRELIMINARY STUDIES ON THE BIOMASS OF SPODIOPOGON SIBIRICUS COMMUNITY ON WOODLAND OF LOESS PLATEAU IN NORTH SHANXI PROVINCE

Not only the distribution range of the Spodiopogon sibiricus communityon woodland of the loess plateau in north Shanxi Province is widespread,its quality is also excellent. It occupies a very important position in ani-mal husbandry. We have investigated the seasonal and spacial variationof both aboveground part and underground biomass in Spodiopogon sibiri-cus community. The result indicates that: the biomass seasonal dynamicswas evident, the biomass of aboveground achieved peak value (243.lg/m~2)in the midmonth of September; the biomass of underground was mediumduring the reviving period, minimum during flourishing period, maximumduring the withering period. The observed facts are related to the stagesand organic matter transport.
