Plant viruses-novel vectors for expressing foreign genes

For expression of foreign genes in plant, expression with plant virus vector has many advantages, such as high expression level, short expression period and wider plant hosts, etc., as compared with using transgenic technology. Plant viruses have been considered as novel vectors for expressing foreign genes. In this paper, the constructing strategies of plant virus vectors and their applications for biological researches and commercial purposes are reviewed. The possible disadvantages for using plant virus vectors are also discussed.
