Antagonism in vitro of Trichoderma harzianum C184 against the root patho gens of banana and plantain in Cameroon
|
Abstract:
The Trichoderma harzianum strain C184 isolated recently from banana and plantain plantation in Cameroon was tested for its antagonism in vitro against Cylindrocladium pteridis (the causal agent of root necrosis on banana and plantain); Fusarium solani , Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus sp (secondary colonizers of root systems of banana and plantain) On dual culture the mycelial growth of the pathogens was significantly suppressed; on the filter culture that was inhibited with 67% 88%; the culture filtrate of the Trichoderma strain reduced the mycelial growth of the pathogen with 52% 87% Results showed that the mycoparasitism of the Trichoderma strain on the hypha of pathogens was one of the mechanisms of the inhibition of the pathogens Some cell wall lytic enzymes and antibiotics produced in the liquid culture might also involve in the mechanism of antagonism
