Studies of Chinese Syntax in the Last 20 Years
|
Abstract:
The study of Chinese syntax began with the advent of Chinese grammar. Syntactic classifications have hitherto been carried out in the light of different grammatical theories and systems, giving birth to diverse and even mutually exclusive sentence patterns. It is suggested in this essay that, in the study of Chinese syntax, priority be given to the establishment of a whole system of scientifically defined, general, concise, and practical sentence patterns in consistency with Chinese grammatical rules.
