A Preliminary Investigation into the Phenomemon of Pragmatic Ambivalence Embedded in WEICHENG

The present arhcle looks into the phenomenon of pragmatic ambivalence embedded in the novel WEICHENG written byQian Zhongshu. Two models of classification of pragmatic ambivalence are presented And three ways of how pragmatic ambivalencemanifests itself during the reading process are discussed, giving priority to the discoursal clues explicit commentary by the author andthe reader's understanding respectively.
