On the Value of the Eight Prefaces for Verses in Wen Xuan

Hong Xingzu's Supplementary Notes on Chu Ci has long been the basic edition for researchers. Redaction questions and doubts have nevertheless been often raised on the short prefaces for Wang Yi's Chu Ci Zhang Ju in Hong's work, yet it may be argued that these prefaces were in fact not written by a single person but were continually revised by unknown annotators.
