Huaifengzao, a Sign of the Beginning of Chinees Poetry''''s Development in Japan
|
Abstract:
As the earliest collection of Chinses poetry in Japan,Huaifengzao, with a distinct feature in its order of arrangement, represents the beginning of Chinses poetry creation in that country. The overflow of poems written for magnificent feasts or for praising the king indicates the fact that entertainment is the main function or motivation of these poems at that time.Comparatively, poems that depict beautiful mountains and rivers or convey personal ideals have little artistic value. As to the artistic forms, most of which seem childish and clumsy as an unavoidable character in the initial period of Chinses poetry.Nevertheless, the collection is still a starting point to contemplate and study Chinses poetry in Japan.
