Mei Guangdi''''s Humanistic Ideas and Literary Criticism
|
Abstract:
Mei Guangdi, the well-known modern Chinese scholar and writer, underwent a big ideological change at the outset of the May Forth Movement: His reserved partial criticism of traditional mainstream thought developed into a strong tradition-oriented denunciation of the new cultural ideals. This change was directly caused by his exposure to the thought of the American Neo-humanist Irving Babbit. His connection with the famous contemporary neo-cultural advocator Hu Shi further reinforced his unique personal style of humanism and literary criticism.
