A Comparative Study of Separate Item Multiple Choice Cloze Test and Bank Cloze Test

Cloze Test, as a test item, has long been used in many large-scale tests, but the study of this item type in detail is few andfar between. This paper, based on a general review of this item type, presents the results of a comparative study of two highly efficientand effective variants of Cloze Test, that is, Separate Item Multiple Choice Cloze Test (MC Cloze Test for short) and Bank Cloze Test.The results show a higher correlation between MC Cloze Test with the test of vocabulary and grammar and a higher correlation betweenBank Cloze with the test of reading comprehension. A conclusion is thus drawn that Bank Cloze Test is a highly valid way of testingreading comprehension.
