Drinking games were popular over the Tang Dynasty feast tables. As they began to be played in the form of verbal expressions accompanied by body movements, they gave rise to a large number of rhymed verses. These drinking game verses as created in set musical tunes promoted the literary practice of writing verses to pre-tuned music. Many of the Tang Dynasty poems therefore betray the evidence of the drinking game verses of the time.
