This essay makes a textual criticism in three sections of the long-standing controversies about Wang Tong's followers. It holds that Wang Tong's followers can be categorized into three types: formal disciples, those who had only received instruction from Wang Tong, and those who were treated as Wang Tong's disciples. Wen Zhong Zi Shi Jia by Du Yan was not strictly a reliable source of information due to its frquent defects, but no doubt can therefore be raised on Wang Tong and Zhong Shuo.
