An approach to the solution of polar singularity problem in grid-point atmospheric model

Abstract:
There are two singularities in atmospheric governing equations under spherical coordinate system,and hence,velocity at the north and south poles can not be defined and predicted directly by grid-point atmospheric model. To solve this problem,a simple approach is presented,and an explicit square conservation scheme in A-grid for shallow water model is chosen as an example.
