The progress of biotechnology, especially of gene engineering at home and abroad is introduced with plenty of practical examples in this paper. And the potential threats of biotechnology to the security of human beings are expounded from the following aspects:ethics,the damages to the health of people and to the environment,and so on. Finally,some constructive suggestions on the legislation of biosafety are proposed.
