论述学术争鸣对科学发展的意义，阐明《热带地理》开展学术争鸣，设置“争鸣园地”栏目的背景和指导思想。认为开展学术争鸣，在构建期刊形象中具有重要作用，提出开展学术争鸣，办好“争鸣园地”的措施。
