Progress in Interspecific Hybridization in Genus Cucumis
|
Abstract:
Based on the recent success we made in crossing between cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) and a wild Cucumis species (C. hystrix Chakr.) followed by embryo rescue and chromosome doubling, the interspecific hybridization in genus Cucumis was reviewed. Studies on germplasm and systematics of genus Cucumis were briefly introduced, and then status of interspecific hybridization, some barriers and their solutions were emphasized. The potential of utilizing wild Cucumis species through interspecific hybridization was also discussed in present paper.
