Procedure Analysis of Numerical Simulation for the Failure Mechanism of Laminate Roof

Abstract:
The failure mechanism and the behaviors of strata arround gateways are analysed with the procedure simulation of distinct element method, combined with the deformation characteristics of gateways in coal mines and the results of simulation test with equivalent materials. It is shown that the movement and fracture of laminate roof are resulted from the effect of the horizontal stresses in the roof instead of the vertical stresses as the case of beams under vertical load. The further study shows that the principle of binding beams is not suited for the application of bolt support in laminate roof.
