THE OXYGEN FUGACITIES OF CENOZOIC BASALTIC MAGMAS AND THEIR ENCLOSED MANTLE XENOLITHS
|
Abstract:
Oxygen fugacity in the Earth's tipper mantle.similar to temperature and pressure, also is a key important parameter in control ling many mantle processes. The calculations of oxygen fugacities of representative Cenozoic hasal is and their enclosed spinel lherzolite in eastern China using experimentally calibrated equations show that the oxygen fugacities of spinel lherzolite vary in a very small range with an average value of FMQ 0. 0,and that,on the contrary, the oxygen fugacities Cenozoic basalts vary in a very large range, with average values from FMQ 0. 6 for the Shanzhi area to FMQ 3. 3 for Chagbaishan area both in north eastern China.Discussions have been made on the meaningness of the results of above calculations and the interactions between mantle fi fluids melts.and mantle rocks.
