Three Proterozoic extensional events in North China Craton
|
Abstract:
In this work three successive extensional events are identified according to three groups of representative Proterozoic ages obtained in rock samples from Shanxi and Hebei provinces by the authors. The data are respectively the Rb-Sr isochronal age 1. 885Ga of basic swarm dikes, the 40Ar-39Ar plateau age 1. 262Ga and 40Ar-39Ar isochronal age 1. 274Ga of a large area of potassic alteration, and the K-Ar dilution method age 0. 731-0. 601Ga of basic swarm dikes. With other information from previous authors incorporated, the three extensional events are determined as occurring in the North China Craton during 1. 8-1. 7Ga, 1. 3-1. 2Ga, and 0. 8-0. 7Ga respectively, separated from each other by 0. 5Ga. It is discussed in this work whether or how the three events in the North China Craton responded to the breaking events of the global supercontinent.
