Abstract:

Liujiang terrain locates in the eastern part of Yanshan with a whole sequence displaying a perfect stratum sequence of Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary cover stratum of the North China Craton. Traditionally, Liujiang terrain is considered as a NS extending asymmetry syncline. The field investigation showed, however, that the foliation different from the occurrence of the strata in western Liujiang terrain is the result of faulting. It is irrational to refer the deformational orientation of western layer as a counterpart to the eastern original layer. Liujiang terrain is actually a monocline because of crustal block tilting. It is concluded that the sinking of Liujiang terrain was correlated to the exhumation of Xiangshan granite to its west side. NNE fault system, left-lateral with vertical displacement, constituted an important role in it. The exhumation of Xiangshan granite is due to NNE fault displacement. The apatite fission track dating is consistent with the cooling age of Xiangshan granite from the Late Cretaceous to Paleocene, which is also the time of the Liujiang terrain depression and the displacement of Tanlu fault system.
