A QUANTITATIVE METHOD FOR CALCULATING MODES OF ROCK-FORMING MINERALS IN CRYSTALLINE ROCKS
|
Abstract:
The author proposes a quantitative method for calculating modes of rock-forming minerals in crystalline rocks according to mineral assemblages observed under microscope in thin sections, analysed chemical compositions of these minerals from the same rocks or similar rocks to those detrmined directly on microprobe, and bulk compositions of the rocks, using nonlinear programming by over-simplifying gradient under linear constraints in this paper. The method has been used to study the granitoids in eastern Tianshan Mountains, Xinjiang, and the result shows that it is excellently efficient and valuable for extensive application.
