Information Agent Technology for the Internet

The common user demands advanced solutions for searching, acquiring and maintaining relevant information among the vast amount of heterogeneous sources available on the Internet. Intelligent information agents are autonomous computational software entities that are especially meant to provide pro-active resource discovery, resolve information impedance of information consumers and providers and cope with the difficulties associated with the information overload of the user in time. Based on a systematic classification of intelligent information agents according to their features, this paper presents an overview of the basic key technologies needed to build such agents.
