Sky-Line Diagram - A Synthesis Approach to Industrial Structure Study and Its Application

In this paper, synthesis is regarded as one kind of non-linear aggregation of multiple factors and W. Leontief's sky\|line diagram is a synthetic tool of two views for study of regional industrial structure. The paper reveals that diagram synthesizes three pairs of factors, the importance degree and the self\|sufficient rate of an industry, inner demand and supply of a region, and, inner demand and external demand of a region,respectively. Based on this new understanding, we apply sky\|line diagram to industrial structure and its evolution in Guangdong Province during 1990s where some quantitative synthesis techniques are discussed.
