The property of transformation strain in the textured Ni50.5 Mn24 Ga25.5 alloy

Abstract:
A large strain of 1.4% during the martensitic transformation has been observed in the textured Ni 50.5 Mn 24 Ga 25.5 polycrystal prepared by vertical zone melting unidirectional solidification. This martensitic transformation strain decreases to 0.8% at the ninth and tenth thermal cycles. Expansion and shrinkage phenomenon during the martensitic transformation has been obtained, indicating the existence of a preferential orientation of martensitic variants.
