Diffraction-induced spectral switches of spherically aberrated polychromatic Gaussian beams

Abstract:
Starting from the propagation law of the cross spectral density function, an analytical expression for the on axis spectrum of spherically aberrated polychromatic Gaussian beams diffracted at an aperture is derived, the aberration free result is obtained as a special case treated in the paper. Detailed numerical calculations and physical analysis are presented. It is shown that the on axis spectrum in the near field may be redshifted and blueshifted in comparison with the aberration free case, and the spectral switch may also take place. In particular, the influence of spherical aberration on the behavior of spectral switches is illustrated.
